Former Hon'ble Chief Justice

Mr. Justice Sher Zaman Chaudhry was born on 25th March, 1934. He passed his Matriculation Exam in 1948 from High School Dadyal. He passed his Barrister Degree on 27th November, 1957. He was appointed as Advocate General on 22nd July 1958 in West Pakistan. On 11th October, 1958 became the Advocate General of AJ&K.
He got his fitness Certificate of Advocate of High Court from Supreme Court of AJ&K on 5th August, 1975 and enrolled as an Advocate of Supreme Court on 15th March, 1976. He was appointed as an Adhoc Judge Supreme Court on 29th June 1982. He remained Adhoc Judge Supreme Court but served as Additional Judge of High Court of AJ&K from 14th December, 1982 to 10th August, 1983. He remained permanent Judge of High Court of AJ&K from 11th August, 1983 to 3rd August 1991. He performed as Acting Chief Justice of Shariat Court of AJ&K from 4th August, 1991 to 19th September, 1991 and served as Chief Justice of Shariat Court of AJ&K from 30th December, 1992 to 27th December, 1995.
He served as an Acting Chief Justice High Court of AJ&K from 16th September, 1994 to 5th December, 1995. His Lordship remained the permanent Chief Justice of High Court of AJ&K from 6th December, 1995 till 24th March, 1996.
