Former Hon'ble Chief Justice

Mr. Justice Muhammad Sheraz Kiani was born on 6th August, 1965. He got his early education in his native town Dadyal of District Mirpur. He passed his Matriculation Examination in 1981 from High School Dadyal, Intermediate from Government Degree College Dadyal in 1983 and Graduation from University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in 1985. He pursued higher education and secured LLB Degree in 1989 from the University of Punjab Lahore. He was elected as Secretary General of Kashmir Student Council in the University of Punjab in year 1988. He practiced as a lawyer in Mirpur/Dadyal up till 1995 and was elected as Vice President Bar Association, Dadyal in the year, 1991. Elected as Secretary General of Bar Association Dadyal twice (in the years, 1993 & 1995).
He started his judicial service as a Civil Judge in October, 1995. He was promoted as Senior Civil Judge in 2003, as Additional District and Sessions Judge in 2006 and as a District and Sessions Judge in 2010. He was also awarded “Pride of Performance” by the High Court of AJ&K for the year 2003 - 2004 on excellent performance of duties. On account of his long-lasting and meritorious service in the subordinate Judiciary, he was elevated as Judge to the Bench of High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on 23rd September, 2015. In addition to his position as Judge of High Court of AJ&K, He was nominated as “Judge in Administration” of High Court by the Hon’ble Chief Justice High Court. His lordship was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of High Court of AJ&K and took oath of the office of Acting Chief Justice on 24th March 2021. His Lordship laid to eternal peace on May 3rd 2021.
